Elqui valley is at present the Northernmost Chilean wine region; it is located about 320 miles (520 Km) North of Santiago, the capital of Chile, at 30° Latitude South and between 71º and 71.50º longitude West. It has a long history because it was the southern border of the Inca Empire. There are still thousands of signs of that civilisation, including the irrigation channels network.
The valley is well known for the numbers of observatories, having the best quality of the light and of the air in the world. In fact there is also a small one in the Mayu vineyard, called Cerro Mayu, open for the public.
